Investing in Quality
Pre-K EITC Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Organization Educational Improvement Tax Credit
A Win-Win Partnership for Centre County Businesses, Children, and Families

The Need
- After age 5, the brain builds on its existing circuits but no new ones develop, unlike the years from birth to five when the brain produces 700 synapses per second 1.
- The odds are 3:1 that a child with more than 4 risk factors for development in early childhood will develop heart disease, hypertension, and/or diabetes by the time he or she is 50-60 years of age 2.
- In Centre County, only 38% of children under age 5 have access to publicly-funded quality early childhood education programs 3.
The Program
Your business can earn tax credits equal to 100% of the first $10,000 and 90% of the next $140,000 contributed during the tax year to Smart Start-Centre County's Pre-K Scholarship program. Eligible children receive scholarships to attend local high quality preschools.

Testimonials
"A.'s teachers have commented on how his ability to be compassionate and cooperative has improved in the last few months. He is learning about math and problem solving. By building these essential skills, he will have the foundation for a good elementary school experience. Thank you for providing this essential start to his education."
Experts from Harvard University report that for every current dollar spent on early education for at risk children, we save $4 - $16 on special education, criminal justice, and unemployment costs 4.

"My husband and I are so grateful for the Pre-K scholarship. Our son is truly enjoying going to school and learning. Without the assistance, it would have been difficult to keep our son in preschool."
