Early Childhood Mental Health

  • The ECMH Committee is promoting 2 spring sessions of the successful Tuning in to Kids program, sponsored by SCASD and facilitated by Connie Schulz.

Parenting & Literacy

  • Distribution is underway of the Pre-K Calendar, and planning has begun for the 2010-11 calendar. Sponsor solicitation letters will be mailed this week.
  • Smart Start has received funds to update the Babies Rock with Books booklet.
  • Display cases filled with our publications are being delivered to local doctors’ offices.
  • Collaboration with The Fathering Initiative on a Parent Pledge template is underway.

Early Care & Education

  • We will hear from the Regional Key by the end of the month regarding our Transition Grant application, which will determine many of our upcoming activities.
  • Countdown to Kindergarten flyer is available, and invitations have been mailed to potential participating schools and agencies.
  • Planning is in the works for school-specific Transition Booklets for incoming kindergarteners and their families.

Communications & Public Advocacy

  • Ann Walker will be presenting on Advocacy to the Board of Directors at the next meeting.
  • Eileen will be calling a meeting to discuss the future direction of this committee.

What Else

  • Fall/Winter SS-CC newsletter is now available for download.
  • Countdown to Kindergarten will be held at Nittany Mall (JC Penney courtyard) Saturday, February 6, 10:00 – 2:00 (contact Kelly Johnson, 238-02331, Kelly@smartstartcc.org)
  • Early Years are Learning Years Childcare Provider Conference, Penn Stater, Saturday, January 23 (contact Beth Van Horn, bev1@psu.edu)
  • Focus on Strong Families Conference, Mount Nittany Middle School, Saturday, February 27 (contact Donna Ricketts, dmr13@scasd.org)
