Early Childhood Mental Health
- The ECMH Committee is collaborating with Community Care to determine how to fund Mental Health consultation in child care in Centre County.
Parenting & Literacy
- The 2009-2010 Pre-K Calendar has arrived! 5000 copies of the calendar were delivered to SS-CC this month and distribution will begin shortly. If you would like to request a copy/copies of the 09-10 calendar, please contact Smart Start-Centre County on 814-238-0331
Early Care & Education
- Eileen had productive meetings with the Superintendents of State College, Bald Eagle, and Penns Valley area school districts. Follow-up for these meetings will continue over the summer.
- The Transition Timeline publication is in development. The duration of the process has been extended, allowing the publication to be more detailed and valuable. Any information useful to parents of pre-kindergarteners regarding events/resources in the year leading up to kindergarten should be communicated to Smart Start-Centre County, via Morgan Moerder at interns@smartstartcc.org
Communications & Public Advocacy
- Recent "Yes We Can" day encouraged community members to get involved with advocacy, writing to legislators, requesting support of Early Childhood as a priority in the State's upcoming budget allocations.
- Those benefiting from State funding (Keystone STARS, Childcare Works, PA Pre-K Counts, Early Intervention, Nurse Family Partnership, and Head Start supplemental) are especially urged to contact legislators. Your voices are the most meaningful.
What Else
- Smart Start-Centre County would like to welcome our Summer Communications intern from Penn State; Morgan Moerder. Morgan will be a senior at Penn State this coming year, and has kindly offered her time in the position of Communications Intern. She is currently involved with projects such as the Transition Timeline and 2009 Report Card.
